With yesterday being the more family orientated day with mainstream pop its no surprise to see a more older generation here today for the bands like Iggy And The Stooges.
But first we have The Lightning Seeds who are one of those bands that have been around for ages but i have somehow managed to bypass. Despite thinking i didn’t know a song by them i come away in fact knowing at least half of their set and with guest appearance from members of The Zutons they were a delight for anyone who turned up early to see them.
Having headlined major festivals like Download in previous years Feeder now find themselves down the pecking order as far as line ups are concerned. Despite this Feeder are a comfortable booking because you know exactly what your going to get which is a performance and a mass sing-a-long to hits like ‘just The Way I’m Feeling’. Grant then bursts into set closer ‘Just a Day’ to bring a more triumphant set home.
Since leaving the jungle ex Happy Mondays member Shaun Ryder’s solo career hasn’t quite taken off the way he would have wonted and after his disappointing performance today it isn’t going to get any better. Singing more like a backing vocalist and even then you would struggle to hear him. On the other hand the band and female vocalist did extremely well and put on a great performance of Happy Mondays hits.
As I Am Kloot vocalist John Bramwell says ‘we aren’t quite hands in the fucking air kind of music’. I think he has got it in a nutshell here but what most of the crowd don’t seem to get is that they are a totally different kettle of fish. They are quite clearly musically talented but they just don’t seem to fit for the outdoor setting especially with what has been on before them with many people using this as there chance to stock up on refreshments for the day.
A lot has been said about The Australian Pink Floyd Show and how they are the closest thing we will ever have to the real Pink Floyd again. So having seen Roger Waters earlier in the year i was eager to see if this statement was true. Although they may not quite be as good as the real thing they don’t half put on a show. They fully warrant the tag of being the best tribute band in the world.
So with the act everybody has been waiting for today up next the crowd make their way to the barrier. They take to the stage in typical punk fashion no introductions and no messing around bursting in their raw sound. Despite selling his soul to do those terrible insurance adverts Iggy still is every inch the performer darting round stage as if he was still in his teenage years. Tracks like ‘Search And Destroy’ go down a storm for a band that are getting on a bit they show everyone just what a true performance is. As far as punk bands go Iggy And The Stooges and their blend of ‘raw power’ are still up there with the best.
