Artist: The Subways
Album: Money & Celebrity
After two relatively successful albums The Subways have cemented themselves into an extremely competitive rock scene. Following two very different albums was always going to be tough but they seem to have found a happy medium that they are comfortable with.
Opening track It’s A Party was the first song to have been released to fans and on first listen I was a little disappointed with the change of direction, but much like the rest of the album it definitely grows on you. As does the lead single We Don’t Need Money To Have A Good Time, the song itself also seems to set the theme to the whole album. With songs like I Wana to Dance With You and Down Are Street taking on a more get up a less rockier approach and will get you up on your feet to dance.
Overall
The Subways have always been about straight up rock and roll and that’s what sets them apart from every other generic indie rock act out there at the moment. What is great about the album is that it will get everyone on their feet and moving around which will be great in a live atmosphere. The harmonies between Billy and Charlotte have remained but have greatly improved since the first album. Overall it is a great album but in my opinion its not quite as good All Or Nothing.
