Black Veil Brides at UEA, Norwich 13/10/11 (with support from Yashin and My Passion)

Amid a sea of the colour black, it would be pretty obvious, if you didn’t already know, who we were here to see. The “hardcore” fans can easily be spotted modelling face paint meant to give Andy Sixx a run for his money, along with audience members of all ages which was interesting to see.

Hertfordshire based band My Passion kicked the night off, performing new single ‘Edge Of The World’ and popular choices such as, ‘The Mess We Made Of Our Lives’ and ‘Seven Birds.’ A great opening to the night, easing into the heavy rock tone to be continued, yet their secondary vibe of electronica, dance punk created a new twist. My Passion are now a memorable opening act, rather than disappearing into a blur of metal sounds which is more than commonly done.

To follow are Glaswegian boys Yashin, however, vocalist Harry Radford makes it clear to the crowd that he, is in fact originally from Florida (if we couldn’t already tell by the accent). Starting their set with ’Get Loose!’ Yashin create a sound of Deaf Havana crossed with You Me At Six, and even a bit of Kids In Glass Houses in there. Other tracks of the night include ’Runaway Train’ ’Let It Go’ ’Down, But Homeward Bound’ and even a metal version of Britney Spears’ ’Everytime.’

With many a torso on show, Black Veil Brides graced the stage in their renowned black and white makeup, and trousers that define the “skinny” in skinny jean. Touring for the new album ‘Set The World On Fire’ the set list consisted of tracks from this album, as well as a Billy Idol cover, and very impressive drum interlude from Christian “Coma” Mora.

Opening with ‘Love Isn’t Always Fair’ the atmosphere in the room became one of unity, while the mosh pit increased. Lead singer Andy Biersack (better known as Andy Sixx) welcomed the crowd of Norwich, hastening to ask if the pronunciation of the cities’ name, was that in comparison to the word sandwich. A rather unusual question it seemed.

‘God Bless You’ continued the set, presenting further the unique sound of Black Veil Brides. One that can only be described as “glam metal” following in the footsteps of bands such as Kiss. Latest single ‘Legacy’ was one that most people were able to sing along to, as it has been gracing the music channels of late. We also got a performance of ‘Set The World On Fire’ which the album was named after, and was also featured on the ‘Transformers Dark Of The Moon’ soundtrack, accompanying bands such as Paramore, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance.

As Black Veil Brides exit the stage, we all know that there is still one song we’re all anxiously awaiting to hear. Brought back with chants of “we want more” and “Black Veil Brides” the band decide to give the crowd what they want, and come back for a finale of ‘Fallen Angels’ the first track released from the latest album. Everyone really lets loose to this finishing song, belting out the chorus and gracing the air with fist pumps. Black Veil Brides have created an army, and will leave a “legacy” for teenagers of our generation, who missed out on the glam rock era the first time around.
