Artist: Steel Panther
Album: Balls Out
Two years on since Steel Panther invaded our country and the women that live in it. The band have experienced quite an extraordinary rise to fame being loved by fans, musicians and most of all the girls.
After the success that Feel The Steel brought its now make or break time for Steel Panther with them being the kind of novelty act they are. So what is different about Balls Out and Feel The Steel? Well not a great deal apart from one major factor, it’s just not as funny. I can’t help but think that they are taking the songs that one step to far to the point where they aren’t funny but just offensive and are trying to be controversial for the sake of it. Don’t get me wrong there are some great songs on the album such as Just Like Tiger Woods but the ratio of good songs to filler isn’t great. It’s great to see that there are still guest appearances on the album as I felt that was one thing that keeps the songs so fresh. Chad Kroeger’s appearance on It Wont Suck Itself is one of the albums highlights and also has the potential to be a future single.
Overall
I don’t think it’s all downhill for them from here but more a case of a minor blip on their way to more Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll. If they keep their live show new and fresh to keep in line with the album release it should generate enough interest for a third album in the coming years. With an up and coming tour with rock legends Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe they aren’t going to be disappearing anytime soon.
