The wonderful Benjamin Shaw presents us with his latest single ‘Somewhere Over The M6’ as a taster from his forthcoming album ”There’s Always Hope, There’s Always Cabernet” due for release on the 21st November. Like his previous recordings, Shaw sticks with the lulling lo-fi sounds that are quickly becoming his trademark; that scratching and buzzing you can’t quite get a grasp of, but that feels strangely comforting. He’s a gem in Audio Antihero’s crop of wonderfully odd artists, and certainly a joy to listen to.
‘Somewhere Over The M6’ is almost harmonious, a perfect introduction to the next album. It combines Shaw’s gravelly tones with a scraping instrumental that is repeated so often, it sticks in your brain even after the track has finished. Bonus track ‘Pig’ is complementary to the first, it’s softer but equally as entertaining as it shows off Shaw’s lyrical ability to be both humorous and devastating simultaneously.
After the brilliant release of ‘I’ve Got The Pox, The Pox Is What I’ve Got’, some would think it a challenge to follow but if this is just a taste of what’s to come in November, we should all be very excited.
