I have no idea if anyone will read this so I’m going to write this as a sort of open letter. I want to throw this in to the atmosphere for some sort of justification of my thoughts and how I have been running this thing as not many people know what really goes on or why we have been so quiet lately.
It’s been a pretty hectic and rather mental yet empty year for me personally. I’ve moved houses various times, have lots of parrots (they take up more time than you’d realize!) and had all sorts of things going on behind the scenes that have just gotten in the way of what I aimed to do. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve only just settled properly and have my head screwed on in the direction I want it to be.
We started up with a group of good, dedicated people who more than anything else on the planet, absolutely loved music. We were ready and willing to do what was needed to be done to get this thing on the road. That slowly changed as people got too busy with work/went to University/other life choices, so I was left in need of writers urgently.
Finding people with dedication and standards who aren’t just in it for the bragging rights is a lot harder than you’d think. Everyone sounds sweetness and light when they apply, they say they’ll write about new acts and things they love and then just ask for the biggest and most ridiculous gigs without giving anything in return. That doesn’t and will never bode well with me. On top of that, we’ve had contributors go through a lot of personal issues, the website get hacked on numerous occasions because of previous hosting (we lost EVERYTHING), changed hosting three times and have been copied/used. You name it.
I took a bit of unannounced time off so to speak, to look at what I really wanted to do. There’s no point me being a part of this if I’m not enjoying it. When you spend your time trying to please everyone else without getting anything in return, the passion gets sucked out of you. I am first and foremost a music photographer, though you’d never know that with the lack of work I’ve done this year for myself. That spark kind of left me for a while, but I’m happy to say it’s back. I love music (and photography) far too much to let this fall away.
So, why am I writing this? I’m ready to make that needed change. Back to basics. Clean slate, fresh start. We’ve only been laying the foundations so now it’s time for Resonance UK to really begin.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your families, and that 2012 blows 2011 out of the water for you. And me, I hope!
